PEAVEY PC 1600x PRESET FILE

for the E-mu E4XT and Related Synths/Samplers

The enclosed file, E4XT_SlidersAndSwitches.syx, is intended for use with the Peavey PC 1600x MIDI Command Station and the E-mu E4XT and related Kurzweil synths and samplers. It is intended to give users of the rackmounted versions of these devices a similar type of slider and button control that is available to users of the E4K and E-Synth keyboard models. The enclosed file is a binary SysEx dump of a preset that should provide these features.

I have tested this .syx file with Cakewalk Pro Audio 7, and it seems to work just fine. It should work with any other version of Cakewalk that can handle .syx files, as long as you follow the instructions that come with your copy of Cakewalk. It should also work with any other program that can send SysEx binaries, but I haven't tested any of them. Your mileage may vary.

Also, I have no idea as to whether or not this will work with the older Peavey PC 1600. The model I tested it on is a PC 1600x running v2.2 of the system firmware. If you get it to work with an original and/or upgraded PC 1600, let me know.

Finally, since I only have an E4XT, that's all it's been tested with. It's running EOS 3, and according to the book, anything running EOS 3 has a chance of being able to use this preset. Try it - if it works, again, please let me know.

INSTRUCTIONS

To use this preset, follow these instructions:

  1. Fire up your PC 1600x and select an empty preset, or a preset that you don't mind trashing.
  2. Load the .syx file into your choice of music/SysEx software (it's up to you to do this part correctly) and send it to the PC 1600x.
  3. Save the preset to your PC 1600x.

Concerning step 3: if the dump is successful, you'll get a prompt asking you to select the target preset for saving the data. If you've selected an empty preset, the name will probably show as "--Initialized--", or something similar. You should not need to enter a name: in my testing, the name I used for the preset ("E4XT") was stored as part of the .syx dump and recognized when I reloaded.

In other words, if you simply press the "ENTER" button at this prompt, the PC 1600x should automatically name the preset for you.
