DJ Who – Level 3 EP
Catalog Number: DR028
Release Year: 1998
DJ Who is Chip Watkins, one of Baltimore’s best known DJ’s, whose very first releases on Defective, “Attack of the Deep Dark Dubs” and “Attack II” earned him international respect. He has attracted quite a bit of attention based on these two Defective releases – “PB4UGO2BED” is featured on deConstruction Records‘ (U.K.) “Live At the Social – Vol. 1” compilation, mixed by the Chemical Brothers, and featuring the likes of Lionrock, Meat Beat Manifesto, Eric B, and many others….
“Level 3” is DJ Who’s first new material on Defective since those early legendary releases. And we’re happy to say that this release rocks just like those first ones did! With a combination of styles that is unique and truly his own, DJ Who rounds out this Defective trilogy in style.
Splendid E-Zine, September 14, 1998
“Three choice cuts. “The Threshold” is a lengthy, heady mixture of luxuriant ambiance and tribal techno. “Barbitchurate (sic) Pudding” is a more traditional, somewhat more linear piece, while “Plasted Mutha” takes a few samples (including one from “Buffalo Stance”) and a pleasant melodic loop and leaves the beats more in the background. Any of these could crowd a dancefloor quite readily.”
