DJ Who – Who’s Who? The Defective DJ Who Remixes
Catalog Number: DR018
Release Year: 1996
Defective Records has been pushing diversity in techno music since its inception, and on this collection of Defective DJ Who remixes, they ram the concept home. Featuring remixes by the Baltimore Gargoyle Records posse (Don Corrieri and Tony Pegas), Philadelphia’s very hot Dei Sub, Buffalo’s Mike Parker (one half of Trybet), Defective (and Baltimore) veterans Glitch, Solar X all the way from Moscow, and newcomer Circadian out of Oberlin, Ohio, this collection of tracks takes Defective’s DJ Who, chews him up, and spits him out in a stunning variety of ways, all immensely danceable.
All of the tracks featured on this double 12″ were released in their original forms on DJ Who’s first ever vinyl releases, on Defective Records (DR-002 and DR-007). DJ Who (Baltimore’s Chip Watkins) has attracted quite a bit of attention based on these two Defective releases – “PB4UGO2BED” is featured on deConstruction Record’s (U.K.) recent “Live At the Social – Vol. 1” compilation, mixed by the Chemical Brothers, and featuring the likes of Lionrock, Meat Beat Manifesto, Eric B, and many others….Now check out how the rest of the Defective Record’s clan reinterprets the DJ Who classics!

“Baltimore has been a major part of the American Dance community for years now and hardly gets its due respect. One of the leading DJ/Producers is DJ Who, who has consistently produced slammin’ electro and funky breakbeat tracks, all of which have gotten major play in the LA underground. This new project has taken many of his older tracks and remixed them into different styles. There are a few remixes of his famous “PB4UGO2BED” song, taking it in electro, tribal, and eclectic directions….it contained styles ranging from electro to off beat house, with some strange trance tracks and one really fast attempt at a hardcore remix. Interesting stuff!!”
