Trybet – Monodrive
Catalog Number: DR012
Release Year: 1995
Trybet is Baltimore’s Mike Parker and Aric Rist. Trybet’s first 12″ e.p. arrived in August 1994, and was highly praised both in the U.S. and Europe, particularly Germany, where the track “Belong” attracted the attention of top DJs such as Tanith, Paul Cooper and Taucher, among others. Trybet’s first release then went on to chart at number 16 on Groove Magazine’s top 50 in October 1994. Shortly thereafter, “Belong” was licensed for Groove Magazine’s 5 Year Anniversary CD compilation, where Trybet shared the bill with top notch techno artists Emmanuel Top, DJ Hell, Mike Dearborn, and Frank DeWulf, among others.
In March 1995, Trybet gave us the “Mood Setter” e.p., a four track vinyl release with smooth atonal synth phrases layered over hard, fast rhythms. Once again, Trybet received praise from Germany with a licensing deal from Virtual Recordings, Labworks Records new label. This release is due out in July with special remixes by Woody “DJ ESP” McBride, Holger “Hoschi” Wick, and others.
Defective Records is now proud to present Trybet’s new “Monodrive” 12.” This is a special limited edition release which contains a radically different version of “Belong”, as well as the brand new title track. Both will surely keep ’em moving!
Trybet derived its name from the merging of tribal rhythms with Tibetan samples. Trybet uses propulsive beats fused with dark moody sounds of ancient analog synths to create something that is truly amazing and unique. One listen and you’ll know why Aric & Mike like to cite European space music as one of their major influences.
